JustFund – The New Fee Finance Option for Family Law

June 2026 Brisha Gardner

Are you going through a separation and finding the financial burden of legal fees overwhelming? Or perhaps you are thinking of separating but are worried about how you will fund your legal costs.  JustFund might be the key to accessing the legal support you need.

 What is it?

JustFund was founded in Australia and has recently launched in New Zealand.  It provides a flexible line of credit to cover legal fees for family law related matters for those who may otherwise be unable to afford legal representation during, what can be, one of the most challenging times in their life.

How It Works

JustFund provides a unique funding model, setting it apart from traditional lenders. You can apply for funding based on your relationship property entitlement, not your income. This approach ensures that even those without a regular income can access necessary legal services and it may assist those in situations where the other party controls the finances. You can draw credit to whatever extent needed to cover legal expenses, with invoices paid directly to your lawyer. Repayment is generally made from the relationship property settlement proceeds, however there are no penalties for early repayment.

The funds can cover legal fees, expert fees, and living and other expenses.

Eligibility Criteria

To determine eligibility, JustFund assess your relationship property pool, which may include real property, funds held in trust and businesses. Generally, funding can cover up to 25% of your property entitlement, providing a strategic financial solution to support legal proceedings.

JustFund will perform a soft credit check, therefore it will not impact your credit score.

If you are navigating a family law related matter, or thinking of separating, please feel free to contact Brisha Gardner, Solicitor ([email protected]/03 343 8384) or any member of our family law team to discuss how JustFund, may be able to assist you.
