It is with great sadness that we advise of the sudden passing of Partner, Hugh Cottrell on Friday 9 December 2011.
Hugh was highly regarded throughout the law profession and his loss will be felt by many in the profession.
We are truly humbled that he chose to be with our firm in the twilight of his career. Hugh brought a special brand of fun and vitality to the office and his sincerity, honesty and integrity were beyond reproach and served as an outstanding example to all of our staff and to the law profession in general.
Mediator, Singer, Guitar Player, Surfer, Tennis Player and simply, a wonderful man to know.
He taonga kua ngaro ki te po, Moe mai i te rangimarie

Welcome to Mortlock McCormack Law, a Canterbury born and bred legal firm which focuses in the areas of commercial, property, and litigation with a hint of family law in the mix. We are of the opinion that size doesn’t matter, but if you really want to know, we are a medium sized law firm that supports a broad range of clients.
In December 2011, after a rigorous tender process Mortlock McCormack Law was appointed to the All of Government legal panel to provide legal services (primarily property) to the Government. Locally, we also act as Crown Solicitors for CERA Red Zone settlements. This latter role does preclude us from advising any current or prospective client on Red Zone settlements. If you are a Red Zone claimant we can refer you to a reputable firm on your request. Of course we are also very happy to continue to act for you on any other matter.
Our Offices
We re-located from the CBD in early 2011 to 99 Clarence Street, Riccarton. This is our home for the short to medium term and the premise serves as our base for which you can meet with us. Like a number of Canterbury firms, it has the basics to allow us to continue our daily work. Parking is generally always available on site. That said, occasionally we can also arrange to come to you if it is more convenient.
Our Staff
Our six partners form the basis of our legal experience followed closely by a great mix of senior, intermediate and junior legal staff who are further supported by legal executives, personal assistants and administrative personnel. Our Costs
We believe our costs are very comparable across the legal profession. Navigate at the tool bar above to ‘working with us’ to see our ‘terms of engagement’ and ‘client care’.
Often we are able to offer fixed cost fees for standard matters and we are happy to discuss these with you.

In acknowledging the contribution of both our Senior Citizens and Veterans, we continue to commit to the Super Gold Card programme. If you are a cardholder, simply advise us of your details and we will apply a 10% discount to your fees.
